With the app downloaded 13.7 million times and 4.7 million active users, Safaricom says the integration is tailored to meet current digital demands.

Safaricom has launched a new feature allowing users to withdraw PayPal funds directly through the M Pesa app, a move expected to ease transactions for Kenya’s fast-growing digital workforce.

The upgrade eliminates the need for third-party services or multiple logins by integrating PayPal within the M Pesa app. With just a few taps, users can transfer money from their PayPal accounts to their mobile wallets, streamlining access to international payments.

The feature targets freelancers, remote workers, and digital entrepreneurs who rely heavily on PayPal for global transactions. Previously, users had to rely on web platforms or banking channels like Equity Bank’s PayPal service, which often involved delays.

With the app downloaded 13.7 million times and 4.7 million active users, Safaricom says the integration is tailored to meet current digital demands.

M Pesa wallet limits now stand at Sh500,000, with a per-transaction limit of Sh250,000 and a daily cap of Sh500,000.

Safaricom stated that embedding PayPal within the app offers a faster and safer option for withdrawals.

“This mobile-first solution eliminates the need for bank intermediaries or third-party platforms. It’s faster, safer, and designed to meet the needs of modern users who want full financial control from their phones,” the company said.

To use the feature, Android users must update or install the latest version of the M Pesa super app.

From the Global Payments section, they can tap the PayPal logo, link their PayPal account, select withdraw or deposit, and enter the amount in USD. The app displays the equivalent in Kenyan shillings, the exchange rate, and estimated processing time.

Transactions are processed within two hours to three days, depending on the amount.

By offering direct integration, Safaricom is positioning M Pesa as a central tool in Kenya’s digital economy, expanding financial access and enhancing convenience for users in a globally connected environment.
