Popular Mugithi artist and police officer Samuel Muchoki, known to many as Samidoh, has given his testimony in the ongoing inquest into the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi, a case that has drawn public attention since February last year.
Appearing before the court, Samidoh told the hearing that he only wanted to find out the truth about how his nephew died. He said Mwathi was a designer who also sold clothes and described his relationship with DJ Fatxo, a key figure in the case.
“DJ Fatxo was my mentee. I supported him musically and had no mission to destroy him,” Samidoh said, adding that they both came from Nyandarua County and that he had no political or personal agenda against him.
Samidoh recalled that DJ Fatxo arrived at Kasarani Police Station at 11 am on February 23, 2023, the same day Mwathi died. He estimated that Mwathi’s death occurred between 5 am and 6 am, and noted that police officers from Kasarani arrived at the scene about an hour later.
He told the court that when he visited the scene, it was not secured, and several people were present — three women and two men. Citing statements on record, he said CCTV footage showed DJ Fatxo leaving with the three women without Mwathi.
Samidoh said the CCTV also captured Mwathi’s body falling from a height. He testified that none of the women seen at the scene was Mwathi’s girlfriend.
He further told the court that he first saw Mwathi’s body during the second postmortem, already dressed, and expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the initial autopsy.
“I was not satisfied with the first postmortem results, so I sought a second opinion at the DCI headquarters,” he said, adding that other artists supported this move.
