In Summary

This comes as police seek additional time to detain them for ongoing investigations into the killing.

Five more individuals, including the personal driver and bodyguard of slain Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, are set to appear in court on Thursday.

This comes as police seek additional time to detain them for ongoing investigations into the killing.

The duo was arrested late Tuesday night from a house in the Mihang’o area of Kayole.

Police said they are treating the two as persons of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of the MP on April 30.

They are currently being held and questioned.

According to investigators, the driver and bodyguard gave contradicting statements regarding their actions and knowledge of events during the attack, raising suspicions and prompting continued detention.

In a separate development, businessman Philip Nahashon Aroko surrendered himself at the Gigiri Police Station after being named by detectives as a person of interest in the murder probe.

Police have also arrested two more suspects — Edwin Oduor Odhiambo, also known as Abdul Rashid, and Dennis Sewe Munyasi — in relation to the assassination of the legislator.

Officers recovered two pistols, a Retay Falcon and a Sarsilmaz, from the suspects along with nine rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Additional items recovered include a bag and a pair of shoes believed to have been worn by the main suspect at the time of the shooting.

All the seized items have been handed over to forensic experts for examination.

The late MP was killed in a targeted attack while stuck in traffic along Valley Road near the City Mortuary.

He was shot five times by a lone gunman who approached the car on foot and opened fire before fleeing on a motorcycle.

A post-mortem report confirmed that the bullets struck vital organs, including his heart, leading to his instant death.

His bodyguard and driver escaped the shooting unharmed, raising further questions from investigators.

Earlier in the week, four men were detained for 30 days to allow more time for police to carry out investigations into the murder.

This brings the total number of suspects linked to the case to nine.

They include a police officer, the MP’s driver and bodyguard, and six others now under investigation.
