Authorities believe he followed Were’s movements before executing the fatal shooting during traffic.

Detectives investigating the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting on Nairobi's Valley Road.

The suspect, Isaac Kuria, also known as "Kush," was captured in Isebania, near the Kenya-Tanzania border, while allegedly attempting to flee the country.

Sources close to the investigation revealed to Citizen TV that Kuria is believed to be the gunman behind the MP's assassination and had planned a calculated escape across multiple counties.

Kuria, who is reportedly affiliated with criminal syndicates in Nairobi, is thought to have traveled to the Central Business District on the day of the murder with a specific intent: to kill the legislator.

Authorities believe he followed Were’s movements before executing the fatal shooting during traffic.

After the attack, it is reported that Kuria fled to Mihango, where he discarded the murder weapon, which has now been recovered by authorities.

He then attempted to evade police by traveling to Narok on a motorbike, before boarding a public service vehicle to Isebania. It is believed he had been in contact with a relative in Tanzania, coordinating his escape.

Detectives, who had been monitoring communications between Kuria and other individuals already in custody, were able to trace his movements and apprehended him at a local lodge in Isebania.

Another suspect found with him was also taken into custody.

Both individuals were transferred to Nairobi and are scheduled to appear before the JKIA Law Courts today(May 12, 2025).

With the recent arrests, the total number of suspects in police custody rises to 11.

Among those previously detained are Were's bodyguard, Allan Omondi, his driver, Walter Owino, and William Imoli, who is believed to have played a key role in planning and financing the assassination.

Among the other suspects are businessman and politician Phillip Aroko, along with Lake Basin Development Authority Director Ebel Ochieng, both alleged to be financiers of the crime.

Edwin Oduor and Dennis Manyasi are also in custody.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend additional individuals believed to be involved in the planning and execution of the murder.

Authorities are also scrutinizing financial transactions linked to the suspects, which could provide further insight into the motive behind the assassination.

Charles Ong’ondo Were was shot dead in broad daylight during a traffic incident, a crime that police believe was a carefully orchestrated political assassination.
