Police have arrested two suspects accused of swindling a Kenyan out of Ksh.1.1 million in a fraudulent vehicle importation scheme.

According to the DCI, the scheme dates back to May 27, 2022, and involved one of the suspects, Yunus Hamza Hussein, an Indian national, who allegedly posed as a sales representative at Rana Motors on Ngong Road.

Hussein is said to have tricked the victim into paying Ksh.1.1 million as a deposit for two vehicles, a Toyota Probox Extra and a 14-seater Toyota Hiace 7L, whose total cost was Ksh.2.9 million.

After receiving the payment, Hussein disappeared without delivering the vehicles.

The DCI adds that Yunus Hamza Hussein, posing as a skilled salesperson at Rana Motors on Ngong Road, allegedly swindled a victim by promising to deliver two vehicles; a Probox Extra and a 14-seater Toyota Hiace 7L—for Sh2.9 million.

Lured by the deception, the victim made a substantial deposit of Ksh.1.1 million, only for the conman to disappear without a trace.

Detectives tracked Hussein to his hideout at Crystal Apartments in Athi River, where they recovered several SIM cards.

Following his arrest, Hussein led authorities to his accomplice, Brian Omweri, helping investigators make further progress in the case.

Detectives, guided by Hussein, tracked down his accomplice, Brian Omweri, in Makongeni, Thika, where they recovered a SIM card tied to a Ksh.550,000 transaction from the victim.

The two suspects remain in custody and are set to be arraigned on fraud charges next week.
