Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, has called on police officers to strictly adhere to the Constitution in the course of their duties.

He noted that such adherence to the law would minimize public grievances directed at the police service.

IG Kanja commended the officers for their dedication to public service and reaffirmed the National Police Service’s commitment to improving officers’ welfare, particularly concerning mental health.

He urged officers to look out for one another and, when necessary, seek professional help to deal with personal or job-related issues.

Kanja made the remarks during a visit to the Nanyuki Police Station in Laikipia County.

During the tour, he was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli; General Service Unit Commandant, Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG; and NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.

As part of his tour, the IG inspected several departments within the station and later engaged in discussions with officers stationed there.

He urged them to familiarize themselves with the National Police Service Strategic Plan as well as the findings of the Maraga Taskforce Report, stressing the need for officers to stay informed on ongoing police reforms.

The IG also encouraged officers to begin planning for retirement early by making wise financial and family-related decisions, noting that such preparedness would not only improve their service delivery but also help transform police stations into model centers of policing excellence.

Other senior officers in attendance included Laikipia East Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Daniel Kitavi, James Murithi, SSP, and Grace Kamau, SP, among others.
