Following his recent State Visit to the People’s Republic of China, President William Ruto on Tuesday held a meeting with Zhang Chaobin, Chairman of Fuzhou Benny Tea Industries, to explore opportunities for expanding the presence of Kenyan tea in the Chinese market.

Benny Tea Industries is one of China’s leading firms in the tea production and retail sector, renowned for its wide range of refined specialty teas.

The meeting brought together key players in Kenya’s tea industry, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), and the Kenya Tea Board.

The discussions aligned with President Ruto’s broader strategy to drive growth in the sector by enhancing the value addition, packaging, and global export of orthodox and specialty teas.

Benny Tea Industries is aiming to meet its annual demand for orthodox tea through the Kenyan market.

The chairman has also pledged to invest in modern orthodox tea processing facilities in selected tea-growing counties and to enhance value addition for Kenya’s orthodox tea.

Kenya is working to strengthen its bilateral trade ties with China by boosting the export of key commodities such as tea, coffee, avocado, and macadamia to the Chinese market.

The Fujian Province delegation was joined by Kenya’s Deputy Head of Mission in China, Ambassador Lynette Ndile.
