KNEC announces applications for teacher education examiners

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the opening of applications for college tutors interested in becoming examiners for teacher education assessments.
In a notice released on Tuesday, April 1, KNEC stated that it would conduct training sessions this month for tutors who will be involved in marking the exams.
Prospective examiners must pay a training fee of Sh10,500, which will only apply to those who are successfully shortlisted.
“The training fee will be Sh10,500 and will only be made by the shortlisted applicants, who will be notified through a text message (SMS) and the portal on how to make the payments,” said KNEC in a notice in government publication MyGov.
KNEC has announced that the training will consist of both online and residential sessions.
Details regarding access to online training materials, training dates, and the venue for the residential sessions will be shared later with shortlisted candidates.
However, completing the training does not guarantee employment. KNEC will recruit examiners based on the specific personnel requirements for each examination paper.
Additionally, tutors who hold a Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), or Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) and are already listed in the KNEC examiners’ database do not need to apply.
College tutors are set to receive training as assessors in a variety of subjects within the DSTE and DTE programs, said the examinations management body.
The training will cover languages such as English, Literature in English, Arabic, French, and German, as well as core sciences like Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
Additional subjects for assessment training include Geography, Life Skills Education, and various creative and technical fields. These will include Fine Art, Visual Arts, Music and Dance, Performing Arts, and Theatre and Film.
Specialists in Wood Technology, Electrical Technology, Pre-Technical Studies, and Textile Design Technology will also undergo training, along with Mechatronics and Media Technology to complete the technical offerings.
