A woman was handed a 40-year prison sentence by the High Court in Nanyuki after being convicted of murdering her former partner, George Gachibi Karegwa, on December 4, 2018.

The court was informed that on the night of the crime, Jane Wanjiru Macharia, together with two accomplices, unlawfully entered the victim’s home where they carried out the murder.

They also stole the victim’s personal belongings, household items, and his vehicle.

During the sentencing, it emerged that Wanjiru was already serving three separate sentences for robbery offenses and faced two additional pending robbery cases in court.

The prosecution further noted that these additional robberies took place while she was out on bail for the murder charge, which led to the cancellation of her bond.

Although Wanjiru initially pleaded not guilty, she later changed her plea and was consequently sentenced to 40 years in prison.
