In Summary

The second half, though, started on a good note for the home side, who took the lead when Matheli set up Muchiri, who tapped in to the delight of the home crowd at the sparsely packed stadium.

Ulinzi Stars upset Kenya Premier League leaders Kenya Police 1-0 in a league clash played on Good Friday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata, Nairobi.

Boniface Muchiri was the match winner for the Soldiers in the 46th minute to pick up an unlikely victory for Ulinzi who have struggled at their new stadium this season, this being their first win at home in five matches.

It also hands them a six-point lead over Murang'a Seal in the battle to avoid relegation.

Police who were looking to extend their lead over the title-chasing Tusker FC and Gor Mahia, lacked their characterstic passing and well planned football, with the enterprising Mohamed Bajaber unavailable for this match.

Police now have 49 points from 27 matches played, just a point ahead of second place Tusker FC who have played a game less.

Gor Mahia have 46 points in third place but have played two less matches than their rivals.

Police lost Kenneth Muguna to an apparent injury in the first half and struggled to get going in attack all game.

Job Ochieng, in the Police goal, was a busy man and was forced to make interventions to stop Yakeen Matheli and Muchiri from scoring in the first half.

He also made a smart stop to deny Joseph Ochieng who threatened with a snap shot.

The second half, though, started on a good note for the home side, who took the lead when Matheli set up Muchiri, who tapped in to the delight of the home crowd at the sparsely packed stadium.

Police, uncharacteristically colourless on the day, had no reply to drop three valuable points.

Ulinzi, on the other hand, have moved from 12th to 11th place with 31 points, also from 27 matches to boost their hopes of avoiding a relegation battle.
