The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally summoned Senator Boni Khalwale to respond to allegations of undermining the party’s interests through his political actions.

According to Charles Njenga, UDA's Disciplinary Committee, Khalwale has openly supported a candidate from a different political party in the Malava Constituency by-election, putting him at odds with UDA’s position.

The senator has been given 14 days to explain his actions before any disciplinary steps are considered.

The committee’s notice outlines that Khalwale’s involvement in rival campaigns was “open, vocal, conspicuous and substantial” and amounts to “conduct unbecoming and disloyalty” to the party that nominated him to represent Kakamega County in the Senate.

The notice dated October 9, 205 highlights that such actions breach both the UDA constitution and the party’s Code of Conduct, which requires members to promote the party and adhere to its official decisions.

The disciplinary letter also references Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya, pointing out the legal and ethical duties of party-nominated officials. The senator is required to respond at the party secretariat and has the option to appear personally or through a legal representative.

The notice warns that non-compliance may result in formal summons and potential sanctions as outlined under Articles 68 and 69 of the party constitution.

“Your said participation and activities clearly demonstrate allegiance to another political party and which constitutes conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party," reads the notice in part.

This move comes as UDA seeks to enforce strict party discipline ahead of crucial by-elections and maintain unity among its elected officials.
