Man who conned woman of Sh130,000 in fake job scam arrested

The incident dates back to February 2024 when a Kenyan woman working in Lebanon connected with Kimeli on TikTok, where the suspect used the alias “City Tycoon.”
Police have arrested Abraham Kimeli, a suspected fraudster accused of masquerading as the personal assistant to the Head of Public Service and defrauding a job seeker of Sh130,000.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the incident dates back to February 2024 when a Kenyan woman working in Lebanon connected with Kimeli on TikTok, where he used the alias “City Tycoon.”
The woman, whose contract abroad was nearing its end, expressed interest in securing a permanent job in Kenya to avoid returning to Lebanon.
Sensing an opportunity, Kimeli allegedly introduced himself as a powerful insider in government circles.
He provided his mobile number and won the woman’s trust with a well-crafted story about his supposed influence in public service appointments.
To reinforce his claims, he produced a forged document bearing the logo of the Public Service Commission, which appeared to formalize the job offer.
After gaining her confidence, Kimeli began demanding facilitation fees to process the employment.
The victim, convinced by his assurances, sought her employer’s assistance in Lebanon to send the funds through Western Union. In total, she wired Sh130,000 to the fraudster, believing it would secure her a position back home.
However, once the payments were made, the promised job never materialized. The woman soon realized she had fallen victim to an elaborate scam.
Following a detailed forensic investigation, detectives tracked down Kimeli and placed him under arrest.
He is currently in custody as police process the case, with prosecutors expected to charge him in court for obtaining money by false pretenses and related offenses.
