Liverpool offer record bid to buy Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz

Wirtz has been tracked by Europe's top clubs, with Bayern Munich as well as Real Madrid and the Reds all keen on the young German.
English Premier League champions Liverpool have submitted a €130 million (approx. Sh19 billion) bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz, reports out of the United Kingdom have stated.
Wirtz has been tracked by Europe's top clubs, with Bayern Munich as well as Real Madrid and the Reds all keen on the young German.
However, according to New York Times' David Ornstein, Liverpool are not resting on their laurels after winning the league and are looking to invest the mouthwatering figure on the German international.
"Liverpool submit offer to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen worth up to €130m in total. This is an improved second bid + figure, a top-end amount - comprising fixed fee & potential add-ons. 22-year-old playmaker keen to join," Ornstein said on his X account Friday.
Wirtz, 22, is expected to sign a five-year contract at Anfield if the Reds strike a deal, as the Leverkusen star has already rejected Bayern Munich.
It's understood that Liverpool lodged an opening bid of €100m (approx. Sh14.6 billion) earlier this week.
This could be enough to tempt Leverkusen into a sale, with the Bundesliga club previously demanding 150m Euro during talks with Bayern.
Given that Liverpool are a foreign club, his asking price could be reduced.
Liverpool have already negotiated with Leverkusen in recent weeks, as their right-back, Jeremie Frimpong, is also joining the club, with his reported 50m Euro release clause being met by the Reds who are looking to strengthen their squad following a disappointing season in Europe, where they were eliminated from the round of 16.
In the 2024/25 season, Wirtz managed a total of 19 goals and 13 assists and is thought to be one of the best playmakers in Europe.
