The court set the mention of the case for April 28, 2025, as investigations and legal proceedings continue.

Three individuals accused of causing the death of Lucy Wambui Ng’ang’a at a cosmetic facility in Nairobi have been granted bail as they await the next stage of their manslaughter case.

The suspects, Robert Maweu Mutula, a surgeon, and George Wakaria Njoroge and Lilian Edna Wanjiru, the owners of Body by Design Clinic, were released on a cash bail of Sh500,000 each.

They were also instructed to provide a surety of the same amount before being freed.

The court set the mention of the case for April 28, 2025, as investigations and legal proceedings continue.

The three are facing charges linked to the death of Lucy, who died on October 6, 2024, while receiving cosmetic treatment at Omnicare Medical Limited, which was operating under the name Body by Design.

The incident took place at the facility on Kabarsiran Avenue in Nairobi, which had been promoted to the public as a health clinic offering aesthetic procedures.

However, government records later revealed that it was registered as a beauty spa rather than a medical institution.

Lucy’s death raised serious questions about the operations of such facilities and the risks involved in undergoing medical procedures at unregulated clinics.

An autopsy report concluded that her death was caused by complications related to cosmetic procedures she underwent at the clinic.

This led to a public outcry and prompted authorities to take immediate action.

In response to the incident, both the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) stepped in and shut down the clinic.

The closure was based on multiple violations, including running an unlicensed health institution and failing to follow medical safety requirements.

Officials cited breaches of basic standards required in medical facilities, with the clinic accused of putting patients’ lives at risk through poor compliance with healthcare regulations.

The matter brought attention to how some establishments present themselves as medical providers while failing to meet health standards, endangering the public in the process.
