Bungoma Woman Rep Wambilianga calls for increased investment in education

We have a GBV rescue centre, but we lack the necessary resources to run it properly. Without funding, we can't offer full protection or shelter to vulnerable children," she explained
Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga called on parents to prioritize their children's education, stressing that it is the foundation for future success.
Speaking on Sunday, April 6, during a church fundraiser at St. Johns Anglo Church of Kenya in Township ward, Kanduyi Constituency, the MP also raised concern about the lack of financial support for the GBV rescue centre, which has hindered its ability to operate effectively.
We have a GBV rescue centre, but we lack the necessary resources to run it properly. Without funding, we can't offer full protection or shelter to vulnerable children," she explained.
"We urge the national government to step in and provide the funding needed to make the centre operational, ensuring victims receive food, shelter, and medical care."
Despite these challenges, Wambilianga reassured the public that her office continues to support victims of gender-based violence and to push for justice in reported cases.
"Though the rescue centre is not yet fully operational, we remain committed to assisting victims and ensuring that justice is served," she affirmed.
The event's leaders echoed her call for more investment in education and social protection programs to support vulnerable communities.
During the event, she was accompanied by Harriette Chiggai, Special Advisor on Women’s Rights to President William Ruto; Roy Sasaka, CEO of National Government Affirmative Action Fund; and former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza.
