In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ruling party said the repeat polls are scheduled to run from 9am to 3pm on May 17.

The United Democratic Alliance will conduct fresh grassroots elections in Tana River and Mombasa counties this Saturday, following a review of an earlier exercise by its National Elections Board.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ruling party said the repeat polls are scheduled to run from 9am to 3pm on May 17.

While the party did not detail the specific reason for the decision, it noted that the rerun follows an evaluation of the initial elections.

"The National Elections Board of the UDA hereby issues a notice of repeat Grassroots Elections to all party members in Tana River and Mombasa Counties," read part of the official communication.

"Following the review of the initial exercise, the National Elections Board has resolved to conduct a repeat of the Grassroots Elections on 17th May 2025 from 9 am to 3 pm in Tana River and Mombasa," the notice added.

In Tana River County, the repeat polls will cover multiple wards and polling centres across the region. The Garsen Central, North, South, and West wards will host the elections in 10, 17, 10, and 14 polling centres, respectively.

Kipini East and West wards will hold their polls in eight and 15 centres, while Chewele will have six.

Hirimani, Madogo, and Sala wards will each host voting in four and five polling centres. Kinakomba and Wayu wards will conduct the elections in two and three centres respectively.

Meanwhile, in Mombasa County, the exercise will take place in selected polling stations across four wards. In Mji wa Kale/Makadara, elections will be held at the Kenya School of Government and Serani Primary School.

Majengo ward will use Koblenz Hall, while Tononoka and Port Reitz wards will host the polls in Buxton Estate Hall and Bomu Secondary School, respectively.

The announcement comes just a day after the party launched an online registration portal for its second phase of grassroots elections across 22 counties.

These include Bungoma, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Mandera, Marsabit, Makueni, Migori, Kilifi, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Mombasa, Nyamira, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, and Wajir.

According to an earlier statement issued on May 8, the portal opened a day earlier and will remain accessible until Friday, May 16, giving participants and officials time to complete registration ahead of the polls.

"The National Elections Board of UDA wishes to inform all Polling Centre Committee officials and eligible participants that the online registration portal for the upcoming Phase II Ward-level grassroots elections will be open from May 7 and will close on May 16," the notice stated.

With the fresh round of grassroots polls approaching, the party’s focus appears to be on ensuring an organised, fair, and credible process as it strengthens its internal structures ahead of national political contests.
