UDA to hold nominations for upcoming by-elections on September 20

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will conduct its party nominations for the upcoming by-elections on September 20, 2025, covering vacant positions in the National Assembly, the Senate, and various County Assembly wards across the country.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the party’s National Elections Board said interested aspirants must register through the UDA party portal by September 5, 2025, at 5 pm.

“Notice is hereby given that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations shall be held on 20th September 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for nomination by registering through the UDA party portal accessible at www.uda.ke. The registration period will commence on 14th August 2025 and close on 5th September 2025 at 5.00 pm,” the notice stated.

The party urged those seeking nomination to complete their applications within the set timelines. Nomination fees will range from Sh25,000  to Sh 250,000 depending on the position and category.

Male aspirants for the Member of County Assembly post will pay Sh 50,000, while women, youth and persons with disabilities will pay Sh 25,000.

For the Member of National Assembly and Senate positions, male aspirants will pay Sh250,000, while the other categories will pay Sh125,000.

The announcement comes shortly after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed that all by-elections will take place on November 27, 2025.

In its notice, the commission said gazettement of the by-elections will be done in two batches. The first batch, published on Friday, August 8, includes 16 ward by-elections alongside the appointment of Returning and Deputy Returning Officers.

The affected wards are Angata Nanyokie in Samburu county, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny in Nandi county, Chewani in Tana River county, Fafi in Garissa county, Kariobangi North in Nairobi county, Kisa East in Kakamega county and Metkei in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Others are Mumbuni North in Machakos county, Narok Town in Narok county, Purko in Kajiado county, Tembelio in Uasin Gishu county, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya and Ekerenyo in Nyamira county, as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam in Turkana county.

The second batch, to be published on Monday, August 11, will cover the Senate by-election in Baringo county, National Assembly by-elections in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North and Ugunja constituencies, and the County Assembly by-election in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward, Bungoma county.

“Each political party intending to participate in the by-elections shall submit the names and specimen signatures of the authorised persons on or before Wednesday, September 17, 2025,” the IEBC stated. The same deadline applies to the submission of names of contestants and for independent candidates to present their names and symbols.
