MP Kaluma slams LGBTQ agenda, calls for protection of African culture

The MP called on African leaders to stand firm in defending traditional family values.
Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has reiterated his strong opposition to the LGBTQ community.
Addressing the second Pan-African Conference of Family Values (PACFV) on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, Kaluma argued that the LGBTQ movement is penetrating African societies disguised as a push for modern rights and freedoms.
Speaking to delegates at the conference, Kaluma claimed that young university graduates in Kenya are being drawn into the LGBTQ community through financial incentives.
He cautioned that what many Kenyans consider a foreign issue has already taken root within local communities.
"This LGBTQ agenda is deeply embedded in our society. They are recruiting our young graduates and paying them small amounts of money. So, when you think this is just a Western problem or limited to Nairobi, remember—the person next to you could already be influenced by this ideology," Kaluma warned.
The MP called on African leaders to stand firm in defending traditional family values.
He identified what he described as modern threats to African society, including homosexuality, Comprehensive Sexuality Education, abortion on demand, and commercial surrogacy.
"Let us raise our voices and protect the family from these modern challenges. African culture and values are not for sale," he urged.
Kaluma lauded African traditions, emphasizing that respect for family, community, and faith in God must remain central to the continent’s progress.
He urged delegates to depart the conference with a strengthened commitment to these values.
"As Africa asserts her family values on the global stage, we must hold firmly to what defines us: respect for the traditional family, a strong sense of community, and faith in God," he concluded.
"These are not outdated customs but living principles that can drive us toward a future that is morally grounded, socially stable, and politically independent."
Peter Kaluma has been a persistent and outspoken opponent of LGBTQ rights in Kenya.
He has consistently backed legislation criminalizing same-sex relationships and has condemned efforts aimed at promoting LGBTQ acceptance.
In 2023, Kaluma publicly confronted former U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, accusing her of advancing pro-LGBTQ+ agendas within the country.
This dispute arose after Ambassador Whitman expressed support for the LGBTQ community and reaffirmed the U.S. government's commitment to combating discrimination against sexual minorities.
In a statement posted on her official X account, Whitman shared that she had engaged with LGBTQ advocates and other stakeholders to promote equal rights.
"The U.S. proudly advances efforts to protect LGBTQI+ persons from discrimination and violence and will continue to stand up for human rights and equality," she affirmed.
Kaluma dismissed her remarks, rejecting any foreign interference on the matter.
"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights speaks about the rights of all human persons—men and women. Kenyans will not accept the perverted sexual orientation agenda you are trying to push in Kenya!" Kaluma declared.
