Officers on Tuesday said they are planning to question the MP himself “at the earliest opportunity,” but efforts to reach him have been blocked by his family.

Five individuals have so far recorded statements over the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi, as police intensify investigations into the incident.

Officers on Tuesday said they are planning to question the MP himself “at the earliest opportunity,” but efforts to reach him have been blocked by his family.

“We will continue to pursue all leads, analyse forensic evidence, and ensure that any perpetrators are brought to justice,” Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said in a statement to newsrooms.

He said a specialised team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and forensic experts had already been deployed to examine the scene, collect evidence, and uncover the truth.

At the centre of the investigation is a claim that Koimburi was abducted and dumped at a coffee farm in Juja, a narrative police now doubt. Kanja said the MP had previously evaded arrest and only resurfaced the same day the video of the alleged incident was shared online.

“On Friday, 23 May 2025, the MP, fully aware of the police's intention to arrest him, evaded arrest by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security and switched off his mobile phone,” Kanja said.

D“His car, occupied only by his driver, was intercepted, and the driver was arrested but later released after recording a statement.”

According to police, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had already approved charges against Koimburi over a land fraud case before the incident occurred.

Kanja said forensic officers who visited the farm seen in the video found clear inconsistencies between the video and the actual location.

“Officers visited the scene and documented it thoroughly. Vegetation and road features did not match the video. The caretaker stated he did not witness any such incident,” he said.

The caretaker, who oversees the farm owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, also told investigators that he saw nothing unusual.

Police also visited Plainview Hospital in Ruiru, where Koimburi was reportedly taken after his reappearance. The MP’s vehicle, a Toyota with registration number KCJ 660P, had been driven by Frida Njeri, who said she was the first to find him.

However, the hospital did not disclose what kind of treatment the MP received. “We were unable to determine what treatment or first aid was administered,” Kanja noted.

The case has sparked a political response, with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka criticising police for suggesting the MP may have faked his own abduction.

Speaking outside Karen Hospital after visiting Koimburi, Kalonzo said, “It is a shame for anyone to suggest the legislator abducted himself. We must not trivialise such serious matters.”

Police say they are handling the case with utmost seriousness and urge anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station or call their toll-free numbers.
