I worked for ANC as a lawyer, not a member – Mukhwana

Mukhwana said his involvement with ANC was strictly as a lawyer and consultant, not as a political player.
IEBC Commissioner nominee Moses Mukhwana has dismissed concerns about his past legal work for the ANC party, saying it will not affect his independence if appointed to the electoral body.
Appearing before the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, Mukhwana said his involvement with ANC was strictly as a lawyer and consultant, not as a political player.
"I offered legal services to ANC as a consultant, not as a party official. That was part of my professional journey as a lawyer," he said.
He explained that he worked with the party up to its closure and was even asked to manage its winding-up process.
However, he said this should not be seen as political loyalty.
"I was not a member of the party’s organs. I only helped as a professional during its closure," Mukhwana stated.
He told MPs that having professional links with political players should not be viewed negatively, noting that every person has some form of past engagement.
"Even animals in the jungle have to interact. It’s not realistic to expect someone in public life to have no contact with anyone," he added
Mukhwana said he has always carried out his duties based on professionalism, and his experience with ANC helped him grow in his career.
"They gave me a chance to learn and work, and I did my job well. That should not be used against me," he added
He added that public servants often face different opinions but must stay focused on their work.
"Some people will say you’re doing a good job, others will attack. That’s part of life, and we move on," Mukhwana added.
