Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that tenants in city council houses meet their rent obligations.

Addressing congregants during a church service on Sunday, Sakaja urged Nairobians to fulfil their responsibilities, noting that timely rent payments are crucial for the county to function effectively.

He cautioned that those who continue to default on rent risk being evicted, emphasizing that the county will take firm action against non-compliance.

Governor Johnson Sakaja has taken a firm stance against rent defaulters in city council houses, declaring that residents must either pay or vacate.

“We will not allow that. It's either pay rent or face eviction. How can you stay in a rented house for 10 or 15 years without paying rent and still expect services?” he posed.

Sakaja emphasized the urgency of developing more housing units, noting that Nairobi's current population of 7 million is set to grow significantly in the coming years.

He stressed the importance of planning ahead to meet the housing needs of a rapidly expanding city.

The governor also highlighted the benefits of close collaboration with the national government, saying it has enabled Nairobi to reap the full benefits of devolution.
