Governor Sakaja denies using goons to infiltrate protests

Governor Sakaja distanced himself from what he described as “a smear campaign” aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson termed claims that he sponsored goons to infiltrate protests in the capital last week as “malicious and baseless allegations.”
In a statement on his official channels, Governor Sakaja distanced himself from what he described as “a smear campaign” aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
“Over the past few days, there have been malicious allegations against me. I want to state categorically that in my entire political career, I have never used violence to gain power, and I never will. My record speaks for itself, my mantra has been and continues to be Siasa Safi,” stated Sakaja.
Sakaja accused “well-known individuals” of orchestrating chaos while attempting to shift the blame onto him.
“These accusations are not only false but desperate attempts by politicians whose own careers are marked by violence and intimidation," he said.
The county chief called on citizens not to be distracted but instead focus on calling for justice against Boniface Kariuki who was shot by police officers in the protests as well as look into the plight of traders whose businesses were looted.
"Let us not allow rogue politicians to hijack serious matters for selfish gains. The recent and tragic events, including the injuring of many, mugging, and the shooting of the trader Boniface Kariuki, demand justice, not sideshows or
distraction," he continued.
"Shifting the focus to unverified claims against me is not only dishonest, it dishonors the victims and the business owners who are counting losses."
