UDA, ODM set to share Sh736 million in political party funds

Although the Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, has announced a reduction in the budget for the 2024/25 fiscal year, UDA and ODM are still set to be allocated a combined total of Sh736 million.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are poised to receive the largest portion of the Political Party Funding (PPF) in the updated distribution.

Although the Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, has announced a reduction in the budget for the 2024/25 fiscal year, UDA and ODM are still set to be allocated a combined total of Sh736 million.

The gazette notice dated June 5, 2025, reveals that UDA is allocated Sh480,290,411, while ODM will receive Sh256,558,712.

"In accordance with the authority granted under sections 23, 25, and 34 (b) of the Political Parties Act (Cap. 7D) and Regulation 6 (c) of the Political Parties (Funding) Regulations 2019, the Registrar of Political Parties announces that the Political Parties Fund (PPF) has undergone a budget reduction during the Supplementary Estimates No. II for the 2024/25 Financial Year. This has made it necessary to revise the distribution of the Fund," the notice partially states.

According to the notice, the former ruling party Jubilee, is set to receive Sh112,530,209, while the Wiper Democratic Movement, led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, has been allocated Sh60,101,143.

Martha Karua, who recently led the transformation of her former party, NARC-Kenya, into the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), is expected to receive Sh6,290,464 for her party.

Eugene Wamalwa’s party, the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), is set to receive Sh26,333,970.

Affiliate parties within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition have also been awarded significant shares from the Political Party Funding for the 2024/25 financial year.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Forum for Restoration of Democracy (FORD-Kenya) is allocated Sh21,520,978, Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi will get Ksh5.4 million, while Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party (TSP) is set to receive Sh8,782,483.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP) has been allotted a modest Sh10,546,046, while the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) will receive Sh9,571,671.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM), which switched allegiance from Azimio to Kenya Kwanza after the 2022 elections, is set to get Sh22,372,524.

Established parties like the Kenya National African Union (KANU) will receive Shh20,005,804, whereas the Kenya African Democratic Union-Asili (KADU-ASILI) is allocated Shh399,327.

The notice lists all parties eligible for funding along with their respective allocations.
