Garissa Governor Nathif Jama flagged off a fleet of vehicles and motorbikes donated by the World Food Programme (WFP) on Friday.

The donation aims to enhance health services and emergency response in Garissa’s remote areas.

The ceremony took place at County Headquarters in Garissa Township. It marked a milestone in strengthening public health and disaster response.

WFP provided two Land Cruiser vehicles and six motorbikes for the County Health Department.

They will support disease surveillance in hard-to-reach areas. One Land Cruiser went to the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Department for logistics.

Another was allocated to the Special Programs Department for disaster response.

“These vehicles will improve our emergency response and health services,” he said.

“We’re grateful for the partnership and support in serving our people.”

The Governor pledged to deepen partnerships with non-state actors to ensure that the people of Garissa have access to quality, innovative, cost-friendly, and dignified health services that improve the well-being of the population.

The initiative aims to equip frontline departments for efficient service delivery as health is at the heart of development and is a key indicator on social welfare.

“The new resources will enhance disease outbreak response and strengthen early warning systems,” he said.

Jama pledged that the department of health services will complete all uncompleted projects, equip health facilities and continue the supply of health products and commodities.
