'Unsung heroes': President Ruto celebrates fathers in Father's Day tribute

The President reflected on the vital though often overlooked role that fathers play in guiding values, offering stability, and steering families through the challenges of life.
President William Ruto has honored fathers across the nation, calling them the unsung heroes whose quiet resilience, unwavering support, and constant presence provide the foundation of both family and society.
In a message shared on Sunday, June 15, to mark Father’s Day, the President reflected on the vital though often overlooked role that fathers play in guiding values, offering stability, and steering families through the challenges of life.
"Today, we recognize and honor all fathers the quiet champions who protect, provide, and anchor the foundation of our families," President Ruto said in his Father’s Day message.
He praised the quiet strength of fatherhood, noting that many fathers shoulder immense responsibility with humility and discipline, often without seeking applause.
“Fathers instill values, demonstrate resilience, and offer unwavering guidance through life’s journey,” he said, acknowledging the vital emotional and moral support that many fathers bring to their households.
“In their care, children feel secure. Their presence brings stability to families. And through their selfless acts, communities are strengthened,” the President added.
He also expressed appreciation for fathers who, through consistent effort and love, are nurturing healthier homes and more united societies.
“To every dad committed to building strong families and communities, we see you, we honor you, and we thank you. Happy Father’s Day, and may God bless all fathers,” Ruto concluded.
The President’s Father’s Day tribute came amid growing public unease over the mysterious death of 31-year-old blogger Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody under questionable circumstances.
His death has sparked national outrage, prompting vocal criticism from human rights defenders, civil society organizations, and political figures, all demanding transparency from the government regarding the troubling inconsistencies surrounding the case.
