In Summary

Western and central counties are set to receive the heaviest rainfall, while the coastal and north-eastern regions will mostly remain sunny.

Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa are among several regions expected to face varying weather conditions over the next five days, according to a new advisory from the Kenya Meteorological Department.

The update, released on Friday, June 20, outlines a mix of rainfall, thunderstorms, and sunshine across the country, with Nairobi forecasted to receive scattered showers from morning through night, under cloudy skies.

Day temperatures are expected to reach 27°C, dropping to 9°C at night.

Other areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley — including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka — have also been listed for similar cool, wet conditions during the period.

Meanwhile, the coastal strip covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal side of Tana River County will mainly experience sunny weather. However, light showers may appear in isolated places.

Temperatures during the day are expected to rise to 31°C, while the nights will remain warm at 21°C.

Western Kenya and the Rift Valley are forecast to receive more consistent rainfall, with showers and thunderstorms predicted in several counties, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and Trans Nzoia.

The list also covers Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

In the south-eastern lowlands — Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River — cloudy mornings will give way to sunshine through the five days, though brief afternoon showers are expected on Saturday.

Temperatures are set to climb to 31°C during the day and dip to 11°C at night.

North-Western counties, specifically Turkana and Samburu, are expected to experience a mix of hot sun, showers, and occasional thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures could rise as high as 36°C, while nights may cool to 9°C.

In the North-Eastern region, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the forecast points to sunny intervals by day and partly cloudy conditions at
