Motorists using the Gitaru Interchange have been advised to brace for significant traffic changes following the Kenya National Highways Authority’s (KeNHA) announcement of a scheduled road closure starting Saturday, June 28, 2025.

In a public notice issued on Friday, June 27, KeNHA confirmed that the Southwestern Loop connecting Waiyaki Way to the Southern Bypass will be closed to facilitate reconstruction works on the South-Western Interchange Ramp, loops, and slip roads.

The disruption is expected to last until Monday, August 11, 2025.

“This closure is necessary to allow for critical upgrades aimed at enhancing traffic efficiency and safety at this key junction,” KeNHA stated.

To ease movement during the closure, KeNHA has announced several diversions:

Motorists from Waiyaki Way heading to the Southern Bypass will be redirected via the Kikuyu-Link Road at the Sigona Golf Club junction, about 1.5 km from the current interchange.

Traffic from Nakuru heading to the Southern Bypass will use the newly constructed Southeastern Loop, accessing the bypass through a temporary diversion located at the bypass median.

Drivers coming from the Western Bypass toward Waiyaki Way are advised to use the Muguku Interchange, then join the Kikuyu-Link Road, eventually merging back onto the Waiyaki Way at Sigona.

KeNHA has urged all road users to adhere to the traffic management plan, follow directional signage, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals deployed on-site.

“These improvements are part of a broader effort to streamline traffic flow and boost safety at this busy interchange,” the authority noted, thanking the public for their patience during the construction period.
