Kalonzo said that appointing neutral facilitators such as representatives from the African Union, respected church leaders, or eminent persons would foster honest, balanced discussions.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for independent and impartial mediators to steer dialogue between the government and Kenya’s Gen Z protest movement.

Speaking during an interview on Kameme TV, Kalonzo said that appointing neutral facilitators such as representatives from the African Union, respected church leaders, or eminent persons would foster honest, balanced discussions.

He argued that allowing President William Ruto to select the mediators would compromise the process.

“You cannot claim to want dialogue and then pick who leads it. That would only deepen mistrust,” said Kalonzo.

His remarks come amid growing public discontent following recent youth-led protests over governance, economic challenges, and lack of accountability. Kalonzo warned that unless genuine talks are initiated, the situation could spiral.

“The protests show that people are angry. They want to be heard, and there’s no one listening,” he said.

He criticized the president for what he described as a failure to honor promises made after the 2023 demonstrations against the Finance Bill. Kalonzo said the unrest is a reflection of the frustration gripping the country.

“There’s an urgent need to stabilize the nation. Dialogue, not force, will help us fix what is broken,” he stated.

Kalonzo also hit out at the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of poor leadership and mismanagement. He reaffirmed that the opposition is preparing to unseat Ruto in 2027 and “liberate the country.”

“Our goal is clear: we want to send Ruto home. The people deserve better,” he said.

He revealed that several leaders, including former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, and NARC-Kenya’s Martha Karua are joining forces to rebuild a strong opposition ahead of the next general election.

While all have shown interest in the presidency, Kalonzo said they are committed to fronting a single candidate.

“We’ll agree on the best person to carry the flag. Unity is what will bring down this regime,” he said.

He also expressed hope that former President Uhuru Kenyatta would rejoin the opposition after reclaiming leadership of the Jubilee Party.

On Raila Odinga, Kalonzo declared that the ODM leader is no longer part of the opposition, saying the Azimio coalition collapsed when Odinga began working with the government.

“Raila claimed he joined the government to help, but it was all about personal gain. People don’t trust him anymore,” he said, distancing himself from any potential alliance.

Kalonzo further took a swipe at Presidential Advisor Moses Kuria for suggesting there may be no elections in 2027, calling the comment undemocratic and dangerous.

“That kind of talk reveals fear. They sense defeat, and it shows,” Kalonzo remarked.
