The closure is expected to impact airport-bound travellers, who have been advised to leave early or consider alternative arrangements to avoid missing their flights.

Motorists in Nairobi have been advised to expect major traffic delays from Sunday as several key roads, including parts of Mombasa Road and Uhuru Highway, are closed for maintenance and traffic management.

According to an alert issued by authorities, the inner lanes of Waiyaki Way from Musa Gitau Road to the Nairobi Expressway entrance—will remain closed from midnight on Sunday until 10am.

In addition, the crossing at Mombasa Road and the Southern Bypass at Likoni Road will be completely inaccessible from midnight until 11am. All surrounding roundabouts, exits, and entries leading into the central business district will also be blocked during this period.

Uhuru Highway, a key transport corridor connecting various parts of the city, will be shut between midnight and 2pm.

The closure will affect the stretch from the Southern Bypass to Langata Roundabout and another from Bunyala Roundabout to Kenyatta Avenue.

Kenyatta Avenue itself will not be accessible from midnight to 4pm, specifically between PanAfric Hotel and Uhuru Highway.

The closure is expected to impact airport-bound travellers, who have been advised to leave early or consider alternative arrangements to avoid missing their flights.

“This is expected to have a significant impact on airport-bound travellers, who are advised to make alternative arrangements or allow for extra travel time,” reads the advisory.

Other affected roads and junctions include University Way, Haile Selassie Avenue, Bunyala Road, Capital Centre, Popo Road, and Kapiti Road, all of which will be shut during the event hours.

Authorities are urging road users to use open roads such as Thika Road, Raila Odinga Road, Lusaka Road, Langata Road, and the Southern Bypass. “Authorities have urged the public to familiarise themselves with alternative routes to avoid delays,” the notice stated.

The closures are part of a planned road management operation meant to ease congestion during critical hours and facilitate ongoing infrastructure works.
