A section of Mombasa Road near Syokimau is set to experience traffic disruptions this weekend as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) prepares for the installation of a footbridge beam. The closure will affect the Mombasa-bound side of the busy highway between Saturday midnight, July 12, and Sunday midnight, July 13, 2025.

In a notice issued to the public, KeNHA confirmed that the affected area is along the Mombasa Road (A8), close to the Syokimau Railway Station.“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound carriageway from Saturday, 12th July, 2025 at Midnight to Sunday, 13th July, 2025 at Midnight,” the authority stated.

The authority explained that vehicles heading towards Mlolongo, Katani, and other nearby destinations will not be able to access the road section during the 24-hour closure.

The disruption will directly impact motorists using the road between the JKIA Exit and the Syokimau area, particularly around Teco Mall and Syokimau Railway Station.

While the Mombasa-bound carriageway will be closed for the footbridge work, the Nairobi-bound lanes will remain open for use throughout the period. Drivers using the affected route have been advised to take note of diversions and observe guidance from traffic teams on the ground.

KeNHA noted that traffic would be redirected to nearby service lanes and internal roads around Gateway Mall and the Syokimau Standard Gauge Railway Terminus, as well as other surrounding access points.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the statement added.

The agency also urged drivers to stay alert and follow signs placed in the area, adding that uniformed officers will be present to support the smooth flow of traffic and safety of road users during the installation.
