Ndungu, who previously served as Director of Road Asset and Corridor Management within KeNHA, was appointed Director General in October 2021.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director General Kungu Ndungu has resigned from his position, with the Board announcing that Eng. Luka Kimeli will take over in an acting capacity, effective July 11, 2025.

The decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Roads and Transport, as confirmed in a statement issued by the Board on Friday.

“The Board of Directors hereby announces the acceptance of the resignation of Eng. Kungu Ndungu as Director General of the Kenya National Highways Authority, effective 11th July, 2025,” the statement read.

“The appointment of Eng. Luka Kimeli as Acting Director General takes effect from 11th July, 2025.”

Ndungu, who previously served as Director of Road Asset and Corridor Management within KeNHA, was appointed Director General in October 2021. He had succeeded Peter Mundinia, whose six-year term ended in August 2021.

The Authority has not disclosed the reasons for Ndungu’s exit.

His resignation follows a similar announcement from the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), where Director General Philemon Kandie also stepped down, prompting the appointment of Eng. Jackson K. Magondu as Acting DG.

Both transitions come at a time when the country is pushing major road infrastructure projects.

KeNHA, which oversees the construction and maintenance of national highways, will now be led by Kimeli as the Board moves to establish new long-term leadership.
