Cloudy and wet conditions to continue in over 30 counties, weatherman warns

Rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of Kenya for the next five days, the Kenya Meteorological Department has announced.
In its latest advisory released on Friday, July 11, the department projected both light and heavy showers across highland, coastal and north-western regions, with the rain expected to fall mostly in the afternoons.
Counties located in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi—are set to receive light showers.
Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, along with coastal parts of Tana River, will experience similar conditions.
The department further stated that heavy rainfall is expected in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo and Uasin Gishu counties.
Other regions likely to be affected by the intense downpour include Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
"Cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley," Kenya Met announced.
According to the department, while most parts of the country will experience either light or heavy rainfall, some counties will remain mostly cloudy without significant rainfall. These include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta.
The department also revealed that minimum temperatures in parts of Central Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley are expected to drop to around 11°C. These areas will also be affected by extended periods of cloudiness and lower daytime temperatures.
Counties listed under the cloudy and cold conditions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, Nairobi, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
