A statement issued by police on Sunday July 13, described the forum as both “timely and critical,” coming amid unease over sporadic conflicts in the region.

Authorities in Kuresoi North have intensified efforts to promote peace following growing concerns over simmering tensions among local communities.

On Saturday, July 12, 2025, local officials led by the Kuresoi North Subcounty Police Commander Judah Gathenge, convened a high-level peace and security forum at Chepkinoiyo Trading Centre, bringing together stakeholders in a coordinated push to promote harmony and social stability.

A statement issued by police on Sunday July 13, described the forum as both “timely and critical,” coming amid unease over sporadic conflicts in the region. Long-standing issues such as land disputes, grazing rights, and inter-community rivalries have historically fueled violence in the area.

“The communities were strongly encouraged to embrace peace, maintain social order, and safeguard stability,” read the police communique.

In attendance were senior officials from the National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), religious and cultural leaders, youth representatives, and members of the local business community, underscoring a multi-sectoral approach to regional security.

Police officials used the meeting to stress the value of community cooperation in maintaining peace, noting the importance of unity, intelligence sharing, and the protection of key government installations.

While recent months have seen relative calm, officials warned that underlying tensions still pose a risk to long-term peace. Residents were urged to resolve disputes through dialogue and to report suspicious activities before they escalate.

The participation of the business community highlighted the connection between economic stability and peace. Local leaders noted that insecurity in rural trading hubs like Chepkinoiyo often leads to disruptions in agriculture and trade, worsening poverty.

Community elders and youth leaders present at the meeting expressed support for the initiative, promising to take the message of peace back to their villages. Police reiterated the need for continued grassroots involvement in sustaining security gains.

“The National Police Service remains committed to fostering peace, strengthening community relations, and upholding law and order,” the statement concluded.

The meeting is part of a wider peace campaign by security agencies as the country edges toward the 2027 general election season. With both police and community leaders aligned, focus now shifts to sustained dialogue and actionable follow-ups in the days ahead.
