Governor Guyo warns Isiolo leaders against using tragedies for political gain

In a statement on Thursday night, Guyo conveyed his condolences following the death of Halima Warri and her four children in a house fire in Bulapesa, saying the incident had deeply shaken residents.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo has spoken out against what he described as a growing trend of leaders exploiting recent tragedies in the county to score political points, urging them instead to support the healing and unity of the community.
In a statement on Wednesday night, Guyo conveyed his condolences following the death of Halima Warri and her four children in a house fire in Bulapesa, saying the incident had deeply shaken residents.
He confirmed that the matter was rooted in a domestic dispute, with the deceased having previously reported threats to her life.
“This heartbreaking incident has shaken us all,” he said. “It is disheartening that such a painful moment is being misused for political gain.”
Guyo also addressed the death of blogger Ismail Abdikadir, who died after being hit by a lorry in a separate incident.
He noted that while police had confirmed it was a hit-and-run, and eyewitnesses supported this, some individuals were still pushing false narratives to link his administration to the tragedy.
“Despite eyewitness accounts and police confirming the nature of the incident, certain individuals chose to politicize his death, unfairly linking it to my administration without a shred of evidence,” Guyo said.
The governor condemned recent remarks made by Senator Fatuma Dullo in the Senate, where she attempted to connect the incidents to the recently overturned impeachment process. He said such comments were both misleading and reckless.
“I must also address the unfortunate remarks made by Senator Fatuma Dullo on the floor of the Senate today. Her attempt to connect these incidents to the recently nullified impeachment process is both irresponsible and misleading.”
Guyo came to the defence of County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding, whom the senator also criticised, saying the public servant had acted with professionalism and integrity throughout.
“Undermining our security apparatus without evidence weakens public confidence and endangers the very stability we all seek to protect,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, stating that court orders had been issued but ignored by the County Assembly during the impeachment attempt. He pointed out that both the Senate and the Meru High Court had ruled that the process was null and void.
“Throughout this period, I have respected the rule of law. The courts issued valid orders that were ignored by the County Assembly. The Senate terminated the matter on legal grounds, and the Meru High Court confirmed the process was null and void,” he said.
Calling for a return to calm, Guyo appealed to all leaders to act responsibly and focus on helping the county heal.
“In this difficult time, what Isiolo needs is healing, not division. I urge leaders to speak with responsibility and truth. My focus remains on safeguarding our people, upholding justice, and preserving peace across our great county.”
