Nairobi's Sh2.1bn road overhaul set for completion by December 2025

President William Ruto and Governor Johnson Sakaja announced that the project is expected to be fully delivered by December 2025, under a collaborative effort between the two levels of government.
Nairobi residents can look forward to improved roads by the end of the year, as the national government and Nairobi City County accelerate a Sh2.1 billion road rehabilitation programme covering 62 kilometres within the city.
The ambitious joint venture was reaffirmed on Wednesday during the commissioning of the newly completed Savanna Stage 17 Bridge in Soweto.
President William Ruto and Governor Johnson Sakaja announced that the project is expected to be fully delivered by December 2025, under a collaborative effort between the two levels of government.
Several constituencies are set to benefit from the upgrades. Starehe and Kamukunji will each see 7.9 kilometres of roads rehabilitated, while Kasarani and Roysambu will share a similar allocation.
Westlands will receive 4.9 kilometres, with additional works earmarked for Dagoretti, Lang’ata, and other regions. The largest investment will go to Embakasi, where 24 kilometres of roads are being improved across its four constituencies South, Central, East, and West.
During the launch, President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s focus on infrastructure development in urban areas.
“We will continue to work hand in hand with Nairobi County to ensure all necessary roadworks are completed. This is a shared commitment,” he said.
Governor Sakaja hailed the quick delivery of the Savanna Stage 17 Bridge, noting that just months ago, the area was inaccessible. “The President made a promise, and it has been fulfilled. This road is now open and usable,” Sakaja said.
He further revealed that additional roads in Embakasi East, including Aviation Road to Fedha and Gate B Road, will be completed within three weeks. He assured residents that roadworks across all 17 constituencies are underway and will continue over the coming months.
County officials confirmed that the Sh2.1 billion initiative is progressing as planned and will greatly enhance mobility and road connectivity across Nairobi once finalized.
