The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) has responded to growing public concern over the temporary walls erected along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi, assuring residents that the structures are part of essential safety protocols tied to ongoing road improvement works.

In a statement shared via its official X platform on July 25, 2025, Kura explained that the temporary hoarding walls are necessary to protect pedestrians and motorists as work progresses on the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange project.

“Following feedback from stakeholders, we wish to clarify that the installations along Kenyatta Avenue are temporary safety hoardings. Given the scale and complexity of the project, ensuring public safety remains a top priority,” the authority noted.

Kura urged the public to ignore any circulating misinformation about the structures.

The walls are intended to serve two main purposes: acting as a buffer between active construction zones and the public and guiding both pedestrian and vehicle movement near the worksites.

Such precautions are particularly critical in high-traffic urban areas where construction involves heavy machinery, excavations, and frequent movement of workers and equipment.

In addition to enhancing safety, Kura stated the hoarding also helps to minimize the spread of dust and noise and reduce the risk of accidental access to hazardous zones.

“We are back on site,” the agency confirmed, noting that construction has resumed on the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange, as well as on the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie overpass and related road upgrades.

“We appreciate the public’s continued patience and support as we work to improve urban transport,” Kura added.

The construction efforts are part of a broader programme aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving road safety, and boosting connectivity within Nairobi's growing road network.

Earlier this month, on July 14, 2025, Kura issued a traffic advisory alerting drivers to expect temporary disruptions along Jogoo Road and Nyasa Road.

The closures, which took effect from 10:00 pm on Friday, July 18, until 11:00 pm on Monday, July 21, were meant to facilitate the installation of key culvert systems part of larger drainage and traffic flow improvements within the city.
