KURA issues alert on traffic disruption in Nairobi's Limuru Road

The installation of this footbridge is an investment in pedestrian infrastructure.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a full-day closure of a section of Limuru Road near Aga Khan Primary School on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
In a notice issued on Friday, May 9, KURA stated that the road will be closed from 00:00 to 23:59 hours on Sunday.
To enable the installation of a footbridge deck—an essential upgrade aimed at improving pedestrian safety in the bustling City Park area of Nairobi, the Authority has announced a temporary road closure.
KURA Director General Silas Kinoti has issued a public notice indicating that Limuru Road, specifically the stretch near Aga Khan Primary School, will be closed to all traffic from midnight (00:00 Hrs) to 11:59 PM on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
The installation of this footbridge is an investment in pedestrian infrastructure, prioritizing the safety of students, residents, and commuters who frequently use this busy section of Limuru Road.
The Authority is enhancing safety and traffic efficiency by establishing a secure crossing point, a move aimed at minimizing pedestrian accidents and streamlining vehicle movement for all road users in the vicinity.
However, this development will likely lead to notable disruptions in traffic around the City Park area.
In light of this, KURA has extended its apologies for any inconvenience experienced during this period, emphasizing their commitment to reshaping urban transportation.
"We regret any inconvenience caused as we work towards transforming urban mobility," stated the Director General.
Motorists have been urged by KURA to follow the designated alternative routes outlined in the official traffic management plan and to adhere to instructions given by traffic police and marshals stationed at key points.
The plan highlights several alternative roads to ease movement during ongoing roadworks and temporary closures.
These include the Embu–Nairobi Highway, Prof. Wangari Maathai Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, and Kolobot Road.
These detours are designed to maintain traffic flow, reduce congestion, and ensure access around affected areas, particularly during activities such as the culvert installation along Kipande Road.
KURA is currently installing a new footbridge as part of its broader initiative to enhance pedestrian safety and streamline urban mobility along major roads in Nairobi.
This installation supports ongoing infrastructure upgrades such as the expansion of Limuru Road into dual carriageways and its linkage to the Northern Bypass—measures designed to reduce traffic congestion and boost flow in the city’s northern zones.
Drivers and local residents are advised to anticipate delays and adjust their travel plans during the scheduled road closure.
