In Summary

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the state is fully prepared to host the regional tournament.

The government has assured Kenyans and international visitors of robust security and smooth travel arrangements ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), which kicks off this weekend.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the state is fully prepared to host the regional tournament, noting that stringent security and immigration measures have been put in place to ensure the event runs smoothly.

The CHAN tournament is also being viewed as a key rehearsal for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya is set to co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

Speaking in Kajiado during the 24th Jukwaa la Usalama forum, Murkomen confirmed that modern security infrastructure has been deployed, including round-the-clock surveillance through CCTV cameras, enhanced police patrols, hotel monitoring, and the deployment of tourist police officers.

Emergency response services, complete with standby ambulances are also on high alert.

To ease access into and out of the country and across the regional borders, the Ministry has established special immigration desks at airports and border points, alongside a new special pass for fast-tracking CHAN travellers.

Murkomen clarified that most regional travellers will not require a visa, while special arrangements have been made for visitors from Caribbean nations.

The CS added that online ticketing has been introduced to eliminate long queues and reduce congestion at stadium gates.

He urged fans to arrive early at the match venues to avoid delays and potential stampedes. Security officers will also conduct thorough screening to prevent entry of unauthorized or armed persons.

Murkomen expressed satisfaction with the readiness of the hosting facilities Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani saying both had met the set deadlines. He noted that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Internal Security PS Dr. Raymond Omollo had completed their final inspection and approved the venues.

He also rallied Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to cheer on Harambee Stars and other participating teams, emphasizing that national unity and hospitality remain key as Kenya steps onto the continental football stage.

He was accompanied by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, IG Douglas Kanja, and several elected leaders.
