Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s pledge to uplift women and grassroots communities through investments in infrastructure, financial inclusion, and social empowerment initiatives.
Speaking during a Women Economic Empowerment Forum in Mashuuru, Kajiado East on Saturday, the DP said the Kenya Kwanza administration is focusing on roads, modern markets, electricity connections, and affordable housing to strengthen small-scale businesses and improve livelihoods.
He revealed that 12 fresh produce markets are currently under construction across Kajiado County at a cost of Sh1.4 billion, alongside affordable housing projects worth Sh10 billion, expected to create jobs and raise living standards.
According to Kindiki, the housing programme has already provided employment to more than 4,000 youth engaged as masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and painters.
He also disclosed that Sh705 million is being invested in last-mile electricity connections targeting 3,500 households and rural institutions, with plans to expand the programme to support enterprises such as tailoring, agribusiness, and food processing.
“We are deliberately investing in infrastructure and financial empowerment to create a supportive environment for women entrepreneurs to grow and prosper,” Kindiki said.
Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire urged the government to urgently re-carpet the 63-kilometre Isara (Emali Junction)–Mashuuru–Imaroro road, citing heavy losses for women transporting milk and fresh produce.
“Women transporting milk and fresh produce are incurring huge losses because of the poor state of this road. Fixing it will safeguard their livelihoods,” she said.
In response, Kindiki assured residents that the road has been included in government plans and repairs will begin soon.
He emphasized that the project will ease congestion on the Mombasa–Nairobi highway and link with the newly completed Isinya–Ngong–Suswa road, boosting trade between Kajiado, Narok, and neighboring counties.
The DP also led a resource mobilization drive for 70 women enterprises and groups from Kajiado East, urging them to manage the funds collectively for greater impact.
“Use these resources strategically to grow your businesses and transform your communities for sustainable development,” he advised.
