Governor Jama described the new facility as a lasting symbol of Garissa’s democratic growth

Governor Nathif Jama presided over the opening of a state-of-the-art County Assembly Complex on Tuesday.

He described the new facility as a lasting symbol of Garissa’s democratic growth.

“This project will outlive us all and will forever be a valuable asset for the coming generations,” he said.

The modern complex houses a spacious Chamber, a Public Gallery, executive boardrooms, and fully equipped offices for Assembly leadership, committees, and the Secretariat.

It also offers upgraded security and amenities designed to meet both current and future needs.

Assembly Speaker Abdi Idle Gure called the facility a turning point in the county’s legislative journey.

“From conducting sittings in congested halls to hosting diplomats in this dignified Chamber, we have come a long way,” he said.

He recalled the difficult years after the 2021 fire that destroyed the former premises.

The Speaker stressed that the new building represents more than just improved infrastructure.

“This structure restores dignity to the Assembly and ensures that the business of oversight, representation, and law-making is conducted with the seriousness it deserves,” he added.

For the first time in 2025, the Assembly welcomed a delegation of ambassadors and development partners.

Gure said the milestone reflects the Assembly’s growing credibility and the confidence it inspires in external partners.

Majority Leader Mohamed Abdi Farah described the complex as “a home for dignity, order, and ambition in governance.”

Minority Leader Hussein Mohamed Dagane said the new Chamber will strengthen civic confidence. “

This is how trust in public institutions is built,” he stated.

Garissa County Commissioner Mohamed Ramadan urged residents to complement this progress with a commitment to peace and security.

“Security is a shared responsibility,” he said.

The ceremony drew MCAs, Garissa High Court Judge Justice John Onyiego, ODPP representative Boni Okemwa, County Public Service Board Chairperson Ahmed Abdi Noor, County Secretary Mohamed Mursal, senior officials, and hundreds of local residents.
