ODM announces by-election application fees, opens nominations

For county assembly seats, men will pay Sh50,000, with the latter categories paying Sh25,000. ODM said the tiered fees aim to encourage wider participation across all demographics.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially opened the application process for the by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025, following the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) declaration of vacancies as per Gazette Notice No. 11160 of August 8, 2025.
The party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) shared a notice on X on August 29, inviting aspirants to submit their applications under the banner “Tuko Tayari” (We Are Ready).
ODM is calling for candidates to fill parliamentary seats in Ugunja and Kasipul constituencies, as well as county assembly seats across various wards including Mumbuni North, Kisa East, Lake Zone, Nanaam, Chewani, Angata Nanyokie, Narok Town, Purko, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, and Kariobangi North. Application forms can be obtained from the party’s Chungwa House headquarters in Lavington or downloaded from ODM’s website.
The party has set application fees at Sh250,000 for male candidates seeking Member of National Assembly positions, while female aspirants, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay Sh125,000.

All applications must be submitted by Monday, September 8, 2025, at 5 pm
In a bid to ensure credible participation, ODM has also launched a membership verification exercise. Members in affected constituencies and wards, including newly added areas such as Baringo County, Banissa, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny, Fafi, Metkei, Tembelio, and Kabuchai/Chwele, are urged to confirm their membership details.
“The exercise is crucial to guarantee smooth participation in the primaries and to ensure verified members alone select ODM candidates,” the party emphasized.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon explained that the adjusted timelines follow the Commission’s recent reconstitution, citing Article 259 of the Constitution which allows flexibility.
Political parties have until September 17, 2025, to submit candidate names, while public officers seeking to contest must resign within seven days. The official campaign period will run from October 8 to November 24, from 7 am to 6 pm daily.
The notice, signed by NECC Chairperson Hon. Emily Awita, reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity in the nomination process.
