Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Duale directed the contractor to return to the site by September 22 and resume work on the four-storey hospital, which has remained incomplete since it was launched over ten years ago.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced a fresh Sh100 million funding from the national government to restart construction of the stalled Ziwa Level 4 Hospital in Uasin Gishu County, ending more than a decade of delay on the key healthcare facility.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Duale directed the contractor to return to the site by September 22 and resume work on the four-storey hospital, which has remained incomplete since it was launched over ten years ago.

“The national government has committed to release Sh100 million this month, on top of the Sh100 million already allocated by the Uasin Gishu County Government. This will ensure that Ziwa Hospital is revived as part of our efforts to guarantee access to affordable healthcare for all Kenyans,” Duale said.

He promised residents that his visit was not another round of empty promises, assuring them that this time the government was determined to complete the project.

“I am aware that many Cabinet Secretaries have visited here before and made promises. But I am not cut from the same cloth. From now on, this facility must be completed. The contractor has instructions to report to site by September 22 and begin work—there will be no excuses,” he declared.

Duale expressed disappointment that the hospital had stalled for so long, especially given its location in President William Ruto’s rural Eldoret North Constituency.

“It is unfortunate that such a critical project has stalled for this long. The people of this region deserve better. My presence here today marks a turning point in unlocking this project. I spoke with the President this morning, and unlike my predecessor, I will stop at nothing until this hospital is completed,” he said.

The hospital needs approximately Sh400 million to reach full completion. Duale directed that construction be finalised and the hospital operational by December this year. He added that the facility will be equipped through the National Government Equipment Service Project (NESP) to ensure it is fully functional once complete.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii welcomed the announcement, saying the hospital would be a major boost to healthcare services in the county.

“We are happy with your intervention, CS. Please help us ensure that the people of Ziwa and Uasin Gishu as a whole benefit from quality and affordable healthcare. This project is in the President’s home region, and expectations here are high,” said Governor Bii.

Duale is currently on a tour of Uasin Gishu County with senior officials from the Ministry of Health as part of efforts to oversee the rollout of TaifaCare, a national programme aimed at digitising hospital operations.

Under the TaifaCare initiative, the national government is working with counties to install digital systems in health facilities, a move aimed at improving service delivery, accountability, and affordability.

For residents of Soy Sub-County, where the Ziwa Level 4 Hospital is located, the project has long symbolised the promise of better healthcare. However, years of inaction had left the building incomplete and the community without the critical services it was meant to offer.
