The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to fast-track investigations into the fatal shooting of Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu and submit a comprehensive status update to the prosecuting authority within seven days for review and further action.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the DPP welcomed the commitment of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to securing justice, while calling for a speedy investigation into the matter.
“...the DPP has called for an expedited investigation to ensure all critical evidence is identified, collected, and preserved in strict accordance with the law,” the statement read in part.
The ODPP Renson Ingonga also extended condolences to Mbobu’s family, colleagues, and the broader legal community, praising his distinguished career.
“His distinguished career spanned academia, public service, and private practice, and his exemplary leadership greatly shaped the teaching and practice of the Law of Evidence in Kenya,” read the statement.
The prosecuting authority also called on members of the public to share any information relevant to the September 9, 2025, killing.
Reaffirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law, the ODPP said that it will continue to safeguard the security and dignity of every Kenyan as investigations into Mbobu’s murder continue.
This comes as Chief government pathologist, Johansen Oduor, revealed Mbobu died from excessive bleeding and severe injuries after being shot eight times.
Speaking on Thursday after conducting a post-mortem examination on the body of the slain lawyer, Oduor said the pathologists present recovered two bullets that were lodged in Mbobu’s chest below the arm.
“His spine was severely injured, and most of the bullets had entry and exit apart from the two bullets we have recovered. We can say he died from severe bleeding,” Oduor said.
