Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Faith Kemunto, a young woman who was set to join Machakos University before her disappearance and tragic death in July 2025.

Investigators said Faith had travelled home from Nairobi on July 27, 2025, in preparation for her admission. On the day she vanished, she left home to meet her boyfriend, Gidion Angisa, but was never seen alive again.

Her family reported her disappearance at Nyamuri Police Station, but early search efforts for both Faith and Gidion bore no fruit.

Detectives later established that Gidion had fled to Huruma estate in Nairobi, where he was eventually tracked down and arrested.

He was found with Faith’s mobile phone at the time of his arrest.

"Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of Faith’s mobile phone. He was escorted to Nyamira and is currently being held at Ekerenyo Police Station," said a police report.

A body believed to be Faith’s was later recovered in a shallow roadside grave and exhumed following an order from the Nyamira Law Courts.

Detectives have secured a 21-day custodial order as investigations proceed.

The case is being handled by homicide officers, forensic experts from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, and officers based in Nyamira.
