Amid the ongoing probe into the murder of Advocate Kyalo Mbobu, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that persons of interest have been identified over the killing that occurred in Nairobi's Magadi Road on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Speaking in Migori County on Thursday during the 38th Jukwaa la Usalama forum, the CS said that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had made significant progress in the matter.
"Persons of interest have been identified, and those persons of interest are being interrogated, and so many others are going to be sought. I pray that the DCI is going to be successful," he said.
The CS also called on Kenyans to volunteer information on the drive-by shooting incident.
"We thank the eyewitnesses who have already come out, who were on the scene, and many other Kenyans of goodwill who are giving information to the DCI. I encourage more Kenyans to come forward and assist in the process. Anybody who knew anything related to this, a very heinous act, to come out," Murkomen said.
Murkomen described the slain lawyer as a friend and teacher, lamenting the brutal nature of the killing.
"This is are very sad thing that has happened in our country. It is akin to what happened to Honorable Were. I feel very sad because Mr. Mbobu was my teacher and my friend. So it's a very sad thing to see him being killed in such a heinous manner. It's a terrible thing that happened in our country," the CS added.
According to police, Mbobu was ambushed around 5:30 pm while driving alone to his home in Bogani, Karen. He was shot at close range through the window of his four-wheel-drive vehicle, which was stuck in traffic near Brookhouse School.
The assailant, armed with a pistol, walked up to the driver’s side and opened fire, hitting the lawyer at least three times in the chin and head.
After the shooting, Mbobu’s car lurched forward and collided with a matatu as nearby passengers scrambled for cover.
