Fredrick Okango resigns as KANU Secretary of Political Affairs
In Summary

In a letter dated September 19, 2025, and addressed to KANU Secretary General George Gewa Wainaina, Okango confirmed his departure from both the party position and membership.

Fredrick T. Okango  has resigned from the Kenya African National Union (KANU), where he has been serving as Secretary of Political Affairs.

In a letter dated September 19, 2025, and addressed to KANU Secretary General George Gewa Wainaina, Okango confirmed his departure from both the party position and membership.

“I hereby resign, with immediate effect, from the position of Secretary of Political Affairs and from membership of KANU, in line with the Political Parties Act, 2011, and the KANU Constitution,” wrote Okango.

The letter, which was also copied to the Registrar of Political Parties, was officially received on 23rd September 2025.

This resignation, according to Okango, is not only a personal decision but also a response to the changing political environment in Kenya.

Okango explained that Kenya is at a turning point that demands decisive leadership and fresh approaches.

“Kenya is at a crossroads that calls for bold choices, fresh leadership, and transformative renewal,” he stated.

He further stated that his exit was motivated by the need for political growth and renewal in line with the evolving demands of the country’s governance and democratic systems.

He conveyed both gratitude for his time in KANU and optimism about his future political endeavors.

“This step reflects both my personal political growth and the shifting realities of our nation's politics. Guided by this conviction, I will, in due course, engage Kenyans on the next phase of my political journey,” he added.

Okango also took the opportunity to acknowledge the role KANU has played in shaping his political career, thanking the party for the platform and responsibilities he had been entrusted with.

He expressed appreciation and goodwill toward the party’s continued role in the nation’s democratic landscape.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served and contributed to KANU's vision, and I wish the party well as it continues its role in Kenya's democratic journey,” he concluded.

The resignation comes after a period of visible participation by Okango in the party’s organizational activities, where he had played a role in articulating party positions and engaging with political stakeholders.

While he did not reveal his immediate plans, his statement hinted strongly at continued involvement in national politics.
