The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned the killing of a police officer who was attacked on Monday morning by a man armed with a bow and arrows along Dennis Pritt Road, near State House Gate D in Nairobi.

In a statement, the NPS said the incident occurred at around 8:10 am when the 56-year-old assailant rapidly approached officers stationed in the area.

Despite being ordered to surrender, the man advanced toward Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka and shot him in the left ribs with an arrow.

Officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) swiftly subdued and arrested the attacker.

Constable Mattanka was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

His body was later moved to the hospital’s mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The National Police Service described the incident as a “heinous act” and commended the officers for their quick response, which prevented further harm.

“An investigation is ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack,” the statement said.

The Service extended its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Constable Mattanka, noting that he paid the ultimate price while serving the country.

“The officer’s next of kin have been notified, and the Service stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.
