Governor Wavinya urges EACC to investigate county amid impeachment rumours

"I am not afraid of the truth because it is the only thing that will continue to strengthen the bonds that bind our shared values and our unified vision," said Wavinya.
Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has extended an open invitation to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to personally visit the county and carry out investigations.
While addressing the public on Tuesday, April 8, Governor Ndeti stressed that she had nothing to hide and welcomed scrutiny, noting that a direct probe would allow the commission to access truthful and firsthand information about her administration.
"I encourage the EACC and other government agencies to verify facts on the ground instead of acting on false reports being circulated by some individuals," Wavinya said during a burial mass at Masakoni Village, Mitaboni Ward.
"If you have any information or need any clarification, or if you need to come to investigate, come to Machakos County. We will provide whatever you need so that you can know whether what you are being told is the truth or a lie. As the governor of Machakos County, I am not fearful," she added
Just days after Governor Wavinya Ndeti voiced strong criticism of her predecessor, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, tensions between the two leaders appear to be escalating.
Over the weekend, Governor Ndeti issued a fiery statement, telling Mutua to keep off Machakos County matters and reminding him that his tenure as governor had ended.
"Alfred Mutua, you are no longer the governor of Machakos. Step aside and allow me to manage the county without interference," she asserted, dismissing what she described as attempts to intimidate her.
"I am dedicated to serving the people of Machakos, and I will not allow anyone to sow discord through external political influence," she added.
"I will not tolerate any schemes to derail my administration from the work we have committed ourselves to. I'm sending a strong warning to our detractors. Your plans will not prevail."
Ndeti is currently under pressure from an impeachment threat initiated by Muthwani Ward MCA Dominic Maitha, a close ally of CS Mutua.
However, just a day later, Mutua moved to disassociate himself from the unfolding drama, making it clear that he would not back any efforts to impeach governors in the Ukambani region.
He also urged leaders in the region to prioritize peace and unity, emphasizing the need to work together for the development of the three counties and to avoid a repeat of past setbacks.
