Kileleshwa Member of the County Assembly, Robert Alai, has faulted the Wiper Democratic Movement for what he termed a misguided attack on ODM over Raila Odinga’s health, saying the party misdirected its response.

Speaking during an interview on Radio Generation on October 6, 2025, Alai dismissed the attack, arguing that Wiper’s leadership had misread the situation.

"Why did Wiper have to respond through their Secretary General and not the Communication Director at the Office of Kalonzo Musyoka?” he posed.“This is because Baba’s Communication Director, Dennis Onyango, wrote the statement. It was not ODM. In fact, ODM has not spoken about the issue of Baba’s health."

He explained that the statement addressing Raila’s health did not come from ODM, but rather from Raila Odinga’s Secretariat through his Communication Director, Dennis Onyango.

“I found it weird that Wiper responded by attacking ODM, yet the statement had Raila Odinga’s Secretariat letterhead, not ODM. Raila Odinga’s Secretariat and ODM are two different institutions,” Alai said.

On Sunday, October 5, Wiper Secretary General Senator Shakila Abdalla issued a statement accusing ODM of “political theatre” and linking Kalonzo Musyoka’s name to alleged misinformation about Raila’s health.

“Let it be stated clearly: H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka harbors no ill whatsoever toward Mr. Odinga. Any suggestion that he wishes harm upon Raila is malicious, reckless, and utterly false,” she said.

“ODM’s attempt to drag H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka into its internal confusion is a weak distraction from the cracks splitting the so-called Broad-Based Government they now defend so blindly,” she added.

The statement further accused ODM of siding with President William Ruto’s government, describing the party as having “lost both its moral compass and political relevance.”

Raila’s spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, accused a section of political figures led by impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa of orchestrating a familiar campaign of misinformation targeting the opposition leader.

According to the statement, the alleged misinformation is being spread by the same team that previously attacked Mr. Odinga’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year.

“The misinformation is broadcast by the same team that went on a frenzy against Hon. Raila’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year,” the statement read.

The Secretariat accused the politicians of co-opting sections of the media and bloggers to spread false information, including AI-generated images, which are then circulated as breaking news.

“The hope of this team then and now is to bully Hon. Raila to provide a back for them to ride on in their struggle against President William Ruto,” Onyango said.
