Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief Raila Odinga has urged politicians to hold off on a series of early campaigns and instead focus on the country’s development.

Speaking in Machakos during the funeral of Colonel (Rtd) James Gitahi, Raila cautioned that excessive politicking was slowing down national progress adding there was also no point in calling for President William Ruto’s removal.

“If he goes, then what? 2027 will come, but right now, Kenyans are grappling with serious challenges that need immediate solutions, not future promises. We cannot be in endless campaign mode for five years,” said Raila stated.

He warned that if politicians remain preoccupied with election campaigns, no real work will be done. Instead, he called for focus on critical issues such as corruption, the high cost of living and over-taxation.

The funeral was held in honor of Colonel Gitahi, who died in a road accident on March 7 at Kyumvi Junction on Mombasa Highway, when his vehicle collided head-on with a lorry, causing a fire.

The retired military pilot, who was driving alone in his saloon car, died instantly after suffering extensive burns.

Gitahi was the husband of ODM-nominated Senator Betty Batuli Montet.
